Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a rhizomatous herbaceous plant in the Zingiberaceae family with cylindrical rhizomes that present a deep orange to yellow color inside. It is native to Southeastern Asia and especially to India. Turmeric is a major constituent of the curry spice, and it has been traditionally used by Ayurvedic medicine to treat inflammation, infections and skin disorders, and in traditional Chinese medicine as a stimulant, astringent, soap, digestive and to improve blood circulation.
